One reason to keep on.

She was standing in line behind me at Harding's, a microphone positioned in front of her face (DKN preacher style). I was fighting my urge to stare, and mustered up enough curiosity to inquire what the sermon topic was. She chuckled as she revealed a discreetly hidden speaker near her waistline, a neutral-colored wire running from the unit to her mic.

"Multiple benign meningiomas..."

One vocal cord was paralyzed, and the amplifier helped her speak loudly enough for conversation. The growth on her brainstem had destroyed the pathway to her muscles of speech on one side. Today, she has tumors on her spinal cord and behind her orbit (eye).
I explained the reason for my curiosity, describing briefly my enrollment in a neurology course as a PT student.
"Oh, I've had a lot of PT. I couldn't even lift my arm when I first went in! My PT's name is Sam S. It's amazing what they can do."

Someday, I get to help people like her.
I can't wait.
